For Foreign Staff needing
working J-1 Visas
The following information
is for you after you have signed the contract and sent
it back in to us at Maine Golf and Tennis Academy 35
Golf Academy Drive, Belgrade, Maine 04917
All staff must have either a social security
number, indicating they are permitted to work in America
as any US citizen is permitted to work or in the case of
staff from outside the US, they must have a Visa called
a J-1 visa issued by the US Government.
There are certain agencies in that have
offices in both America and in some countries that have
been granted the authorization to assist non-citizens through
the application process. In addition to the visa to work
they will help arrange transportation to New York ( 7 hours
from camp) via airplane, arrange an orientation, medical
coverage, insurance and other needs to make the travel
and employment in America go smoothly.
Kennebec Maine Golf and Tennis Academy
is NOT able to get a visa for you, you must go through
one of the agencies. WE DO HAVE A STAFF COORDINATOR WHO
WILL HELP YOU THROUGH THE STEPS OF THE PROCESS.
BUNAC, Camp America, CCUSA and ICCP are
the major agencies that have been authorized to supply
the visas
We use mainly ICCP for
all foreign staff and it can be found at http://www.internationalymca.org/SWT/Home.shtml
or for CANADIANS it is BUNAC http://www.bunac.org
After you receive a contract from us,
keep a copy to show the agency (Either ICCP OR BUNAC).
They will then interview you, if you are in the UK and
in any case, they will process your request for a visa,
give you travel options, and arrange for you to receive
the full services they offer. They are very professional
and a great deal of help for a process that is difficult
and time consuming.
They are however, expense compared to
the amount of total compensation you will receive and many
staff end up spending over half of their earnings just
getting here, with all the appropriate paper work.
In actuality the minimum compensation
for foreign staff is required to be higher than that of
our average American staff, but foreign staff have to spend
so much on visa and travel that it appears to be less,
when pay day comes around. Be assured that you are being
paid according to our scale, plus an additional amount
higher because of the agency's requirements, through which
you arrange your visa.
The camp will either provide, only if
available and with advance reservations by the staff member,
a van to pick up staff in New York or will pay for the
bus ticket to Waterville, Maine. If you have not made arrangements
with us, please take the Greyhound Peter Pan Bus to Waterville
Maine, save you receipt and we will reimburse you the cost
when you arrive at camp.
