A. MEDICATIONS
All medications are REQUIRED to be administered
through
Camp MEDS (see below)
A Certified and Licensed medical professional
staffs the Health Center 24 hours each day to help
with colds, scrapes, and other typical camp injuries
and sicknesses. Many staff members are certified in
First Aid and CPR to care for emergencies. Our on call
pediatrician lives close and he has privileges at the
local hospital which is 12 minutes away. The nurse
contacts the family as soon as an accurate medical
assessment is available on any serious incidents.
If a camper is sick or injured we have a few procedures depending on when it happened:
If before camp. Please do not send your child to camp if they are sick
or have any kind of symptoms of a sickness that is unsafe for them or
others to be around. Call us and we will make arrangements to adjust
their schedule to attend camp after we receive notice from a doctor
that they are safe to attend.
When arriving to camp: We will not permit a camper who is sick, as
determined by our medical staff from the arrival examination, to
enter into the general camp population and will isolate until appropriate
actions can be taken and transportation home can be arranged.
While at camp: Our medical staff will contact parents for any and all
occasions to be treated by our Health Center and campers are given the
same high quality medical attention by our nurses, doctors and
hospitals as they would receive in their own home town. We always
triage with the parents for the best course of action
After camp: Please let us know immediately if your camper arrives
home with any kind of symptoms, sickness or injury.

Dear Camp Parents,
This summer, Maine Golf and Tennis Academy continues
to implement the service of CampMeds Inc. to
dispense and package all of your child’s
medicine in pill form for camp. Camp families are required to register for CampMeds if
your child will need medicine on a daily or as needed basis while at camp.
This includes prescription, non-prescription and vitamins. Medication in pill
form will be dispensed by our pharmacy and individually packaged, sealed and
sorted according to day and time of administration. Each individually sealed
packet will be labeled with your child’s name, medicine, dosage, date
and time to be given. Our system ensures that each camper receives their correct
medicine at the correct time. Although you are not required to have CampMedsfill
prescriptions that are not in pill form (liquids, inhalers, etc), you may choose
to do so and they will be dispensed as well. All med's will be shipped to camp
prior to your child’s arrival.

supply. No refills and only 30 days worth of med's should be written on the
prescription. Two separate 30 day prescriptions are required. Send all prescriptions
together.

C. SELF ADMINISTERED MEDICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Dear Camp Parent:
It is important for you to be aware of a
new Maine State law that could affect your child while attending a Maine camp.
The State of Maine has passed a law that affects all campers who need to have
readily available (carry or possess outside of the regular supervision of the
camp’s health staff) and to self-administer emergency medication while at camp.
The law establishes procedures to allow such access to emergency medication
by those campers who have been diagnosed to be at risk for a potential medical
crisis such as asthmatic attacks or allergic reactions. These medications include,
but are not limited to, an asthma inhaler or an epinephrine (epi) pen.
To comply
with State Law 2496, all Maine camps are required to have a written policy
authorizing campers to have readily available and to self-administer such emergency
medications where the following conditions are met.
A. Any camper who self-administers
emergency medication must have the prior written approval of the camper's primary
health care provider and the camper's parent or guardian;
B. The camper's parent
or guardian must submit written verification to the camp from the camper's
primary health care provider confirming that the camper has the knowledge and
the skills to safely self-administer the emergency medication in camp;
C. The
camp health staff must evaluate the camper's technique to ensure proper and
effective use of the emergency medication in camp; and
D. The emergency medication
must be readily available to the camper.
If your child needs to, and you want
to permit your child to have readily available (carry or possess outside of
the regular supervision of the camp’s health staff) and to self-administer
an inhaler, an epi-pen or other emergency medication, you and your camper’s
primary health care provider must complete and return to us the forms provided
with this letter.
These forms were developed in cooperation with the Maine
Youth Camping Association. When your camper arrives at camp our health staff
are required to evaluate the camper’s self administration technique to ensure
proper and effective use. These forms are not necessary for those campers who
do not need to have readily available and to self-administer emergency medications.
As always our health staff will provide regular supervision of prescription
medications for campers.
All forms should be submitted with the camp medical forms. Below
you will find a link to the forms that you are required to fill out if your
child is being given permission to self-administer medications. As always,
please call with any questions or concerns.
Thank you in advance for helping
us comply with this new law.

D. DON'T SEND A SICK CHILD
We are very proud of our medical staff and protocols for any
medical issues. As you know, we must insure you and all families that the campers
will be healthy and safe. To support that promise, please have a your
child checked by a medical professional 48 hours before departure to camp to
insure that they are healthy and not contagious with any disease, rash, body
lice,
flu, or respiratory
ailments.
E. SICK OR CONTAGIOUS CAMPER UPON ARRIVAL
We will check every camper upon arrival testing for the flu, contagious
ailments head lice.
If our medical staff needs to treat the conditions and isolate
your child we will inform you immediately. It may be necessary to isolate them
or ask you to come pick them up for the health and welfare of all concerned.
If we provide treatment for the flu, your credit card will
be charged for any and all medications and treatment expenses. In the case
of head lice you will be charged
$350 for the basic natural
treatment provided by professionals.
In some cases, we may need to ask you take your child back
home until they are healthy enough to return. We will of course, discuss with
you all the decisions we make before hand.
