Travel Information

It is only 3 hours driving from Boston and only 7 hours driving from New York. Planes are usually only a short flight away from the PWM (Portland International Airport) or BOS (Boston International Airport), where we offer a service to pick up your children and escort them to and from camp and the airport. We take the worry out travel for you and our Travel Agent can help you with all your arrangements. In addition, we have a van that picks up kids on the Northeast Coast and drives them to and from camp once every four weeks. Choose a mode of travel below for more information:

Take Note:

Required: Proper behavior. As of the moment that any MGTA staff member accepts the care and well being of any camper arriving by plane, bus, van or an other mode of transportation, all campers must do the following: Identify any and all luggage. Give to the counselor in charge any written documents, messages, or valuables. Each camper while be transported in a camp vehicle must wear their seatbelt, conduct themselves according to the Code of Conduct, and listen to the directions of the counselors and/or drivers. Ask counselors for water, food or rest stop whenever needed. Tell counselor of any medical condition that exists or becomes urgent immediately. Do not distract driver with noise, music, movement or behavior.

Required: Only arrangements or changes submitted on camp Transportation Form will be accommodated. Do not phone in transportation information.

Required: All campers under 15 must travel as an Unaccompanied Minor. Please arrange in advance for the Unaccompanied Minor Fee to be paid when purchasing all plane tickets, and when the flight arrangements are made and paid for your child.

Fees: Transportation fees are arranged on a base rate from each destination, a flat fee which is the same for pick ups an drop offs between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM and on the normal arrival Sundays and departure Fridays. Additional fees at the rate of $15 per hour will be charged before and after the above mentioned times, if there are delays or if the scheduled flight is before or after those times.

Delays or Cancellations: If a camper's transportation is delayed through no fault of MGTA, and that campers require a second trip and/or overnight stay, then the transportation fee will be adjusted to reflect the additional $250 for each day plus the additional transportation fee for the second trip to the airport or connecting point. The MGTA office will always have the information that both parents and drivers of MGTA transportation will need.

Our policy is that if a flight is delayed or canceled, we will call the parent immediately to confirm the alternate travel arrangements. MGTA will never leave a child unaccompanied, or leave a camper overnight anywhere but at our camp. If we can not contact the parent or guardian, we will always bring them back here to their "home away from home", to camp, until we can return to the airport and safely put them on the alternate flight.
